In the mark of a new era, Australian technology company Intelematics has appointed former Optus IT Director, Nick Marks, as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Mr Marks will take the helm following Rod Chapman’s retirement in June 2020.
As CEO, Mr Marks brings more than 20 years’ technology experience to the role. In his most recent role as Director of Information Technology at Optus, Mr Marks spearheaded a four-year customer-centred digital transformation that included a major upgrade to billing and customer care platforms, rollout of an extensive microservices and application program interface (API) Program, establishment of a robotic process automation practice, introduction of artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies, and building a data centre of excellence.
Prior to his time at Optus, Mr Marks established Macquarie Group’s global IT Shared Services function and headed various IT architecture and technology functions globally. He has also held varied technology and architecture leadership roles at the New South Wales Government. He continues to be a member of the University of New South Wales (UNSW) Council Risk Committee and recently held positions on the UNSW Business School Alumni Advisory Board, and the Australian Computer Society (ACS) Profession Advisory Board. Mr Marks is also an independent advisor for RACV’s Salesforce transformation program.
“Nick Marks’ wealth of experience in leading business-wide, digital transformations, combined with his in-depth knowledge of both the public and private sector, makes him the perfect person to lead Intelematics, as it continues to disrupt the mobility solutions market,” said Rod Chapman.
In the four years of his tenure, outgoing CEO Rod Chapman’s, leadership, was pivotal in driving Intelematics through its business-wide digital transformation journey, transitioning it to a cloud computing company was a significant step in this process. Mr Chapman also championed the diversification of Intelematics’ customer base by shifting the organisation’s focus towards building products that resolved mass mobility problems. The complete organisation-wide rebrand followed by the launch of an e-commerce store for its traffic data products, were other momentous milestones achieved under his leadership as the organisation implemented its digital-first approach to customer acquisition, engagement and monetisation of Intelematics’ products and services.
